Weeding Is Part of the Home Vegetable Gardener's Experience

Weeds are simply plants that are growing where the home gardener would rather they weren't. Lamb's-quarter isn't a weed to someone who picks it to include in a salad, but it certainly is to the homeowner who sees dozens of plants popping up throughout the perennial border. Truthfully, if you want a good-looking yard, it's impossible to take a live-and-let-live attitude toward weeds. Weeds are interlopers (some are outright bullies) that crowd out the good plants by taking over their space, competing with the plants for sunlight, and stealing the moisture and nutrients.
